Sonam Wangchuk broke her fast after 26 days, took the decision in the presence of JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, 24 April. Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk ended her hunger strike around midnight on Thursday after receiving concrete assurance from the Central Government, amidst the students’ agitation that has been going on for more than a month under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over various demands in the NEET paper leak case.

Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike for the last 26 days, ended his hunger strike in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Both the ministers met Wangchuk in the hospital and helped him break his fast. A video of this incident has also surfaced. It is seen in the video that Sonam Wangchuk is drinking juice from a cup in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. His wife Geetanjali Angmo is also seen present there.

During this, Union Minister JP Nadda read out a letter to Wangchuk. According to the information received, Wangchuk has been assured by the government that no case will be registered against the peaceful protesters of Parliament March and Jantar Mantar. There will be a discussion in Parliament to find a solution to the paper leak and education reforms. At the same time, it has also been said that appropriate compensation will be given to the families of NEET students who commit suicide.

Wangchuk after midnight X but informed about his decision

Sonam Wangchuk also informed about her decision on X after midnight on Thursday. He wrote, ‘Just now, in the presence of Union Minister JP Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh and senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh-Ladakh, I finally ended my fast after 26 days. Earlier, 65 MPs from different political parties had met me or written letters requesting me to end the fast. This decision was taken after long negotiations on several conditions and keeping in mind the possible violence in the country. I will explain these terms in detail in a separate video very soon. In the meantime, I urge all of you not to allow any kind of violence anywhere and remain very alert.

PM Modi prayed for Sonam

At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also written a post on X for Sonam Wangchuk. PM Modi wrote, ‘I urge Sonam ji to maintain her daily routine as per the advice of doctors and regain her old weight as soon as possible. I pray to God that Sonam ji remains healthy.

PM Modi said – will present a bill with provision for strict action in Parliament

Earlier late on Thursday night, PM Narendra Modi released a video message. In this he said that a bill to stop question paper leaks and provide for strict action will be presented in the Parliament. The PM said that the draft of the new bill to stop question paper leaks will be discussed in the cabinet meeting on Friday. The Prime Minister also said that the bill to stop question paper leak will be presented in Parliament next week and efforts will be made to pass it as soon as possible.

Wangchuk had appealed to the students for peaceful demonstration during the day.

Sonam Wangchuk appealed to the supporters of the student movement to remain peaceful. Wangchuk said he was saddened to know that despite the protest at Jantar Mantar being peaceful, some anti-social elements were trying to incite violence. On the 26th day of his indefinite fast, Wangchuk said in a post on X that peace and only peace is my path.

Wangchuk said, ‘Where the protest at Jantar Mantar remains peaceful. At the same time, I am pained to know that some anti-social elements are trying to incite violence by taking advantage of peaceful demonstrations.

Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali also praised the conduct of the protesters

Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali also defended the protesters and said it was extremely hurtful to portray the students in a negative light. In another post on ‘X’, he praised the conduct of young protesters and said, ‘Seeing Gen-Z of India in the last few days has given me hope. “Protesters treated strangers like family, shared food and water with each other, cleaned their protest sites, cared for the elderly, sang the national anthem and songs of hope together, maintained discipline despite intense provocation, and kept the movement going through countless acts of selfless service.”

He said, ‘If this is the generation that we have produced, then India’s future is in safe hands. Gen-ji of India… you are not only the future of this country, but a role model for the entire world. He also thanked the parents of the children and said that they have raised kind, responsible and courageous citizens.
