Ruckus at Jantar Mantar, 4 policemen including 2 ACP injured in stone pelting by protesters

New Delhi: Jantar Mantar area of ​​the national capital Delhi has become a ground of conflict over irregularities in the NEET exam and demands for comprehensive reforms in the education system. The protest by Cockroach Janata Party and youth protesters suddenly turned violent on Wednesday. There were two major clashes between protesters and security forces, in which police were pelted with stones. During this, many soldiers including three senior police officers were seriously injured. Considering the sensitivity of the situation, the Union Home Ministry has ordered 20 additional companies of CRPF from Kolkata to be immediately deployed in Delhi.

The incident started around 4:30 pm, when the protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar started a scuffle with the policemen after a heated argument. Soon the miscreants started throwing bottles and stones, due to which Punjabi Bagh ACP Jaiprakash got injured. The police dispersed the crowd using mild force.

However, after this, at around 8:30 pm, miscreants again attacked the security personnel near NDMC intersection and Tolstoy Marg. In this stone pelting, three policemen including ACP Vivek Bhagat were injured, who were admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for treatment. To bring the situation under control, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and police forces released tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge.

FIR lodged

Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unknown miscreants who attacked RAF soldiers and government vehicles. At the same time, the Delhi High Court, while hearing the cases registered during the protest, has issued instructions to the administration to preserve all the CCTV footage related to the incident.

Warning to Kejriwal’s government

Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal has warned the government by releasing a video on social media. He said that the protesters are ‘Gen-Z’ youth who are not afraid of anyone, hence the government should avoid making mistakes like crackdown or use of strict force against them. The 16 metro stations that were closed on Wednesday due to the protests were reopened at night when the situation became normal. However, strict security arrangements under Section 144 are in force in the entire Lutyens area.
