Protest continues at Jantar Mantar on paper leak issue. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also ended her hunger strike after assurance of strict action against the culprits in the case. Before Sonam ended the strike, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had become active on this issue. In the last 24 hours, the PM tried to make it clear through his two messages that the government is taking the entire matter seriously. In the matter related to paper leak, PM Modi announced late on Thursday night that a bill will be presented in Parliament next week, in which strict provisions will be included against paper leaks. In his video message of about 3 minutes, PM Modi said that the draft of the bill will be discussed in the Union Cabinet meeting to be held on Friday, in which the proposed law will be finalized.
According to sources, there may be many amendments in the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024. This is applicable from 21 June 2024. This will be made more stringent. It may be approved in the cabinet meeting to be held today at 1 pm. A provision for creating fast track courts can be added to hear cases. Fast track courts can also be given more powers. Besides, punishment and fine can also be increased. Currently, in individual cases the punishment is three to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. There is a fine of up to Rs 1 crore on the service provider. In organized crime, the punishment is five to ten years and a minimum fine of one crore.
He also said, “The Cabinet will discuss the issue of paper leak on Friday and further action will be decided based on the suggestions of Cabinet colleagues.” He also said that when the second week of the monsoon session of Parliament starts on Monday, a bill will be brought with provisions for strict action in cases related to paper leaks and we will also try to get it passed as soon as possible. Describing paper leak as a big problem, PM Modi said that he knows that paper leak is not a small problem. Such incidents are very painful for lakhs of students and their parents. Therefore, ever since the cases of NEET paper leak have come to light (about two and a half months ago), many strict steps have been taken.
I urge Sonam ji to maintain her daily routine as per the advice of doctors and regain her old weight as soon as possible.

Apart from this, social activist Sonam Wangchuk was on hunger strike for 26 days in the paper leak case and after getting assurance from the government, she ended her fast last night. 2 Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh reached Medanta Hospital in Gurugram late on Thursday night to meet Wangchuk. Both the ministers gave assurance to Wangchuk on behalf of the government. Then he ended the fast. After Wangchuk ended his fast, PM Modi said through social media, “I request Sonam to follow the advice of doctors and bring her weight back to its previous state, I pray that she remains healthy.”
