LeBron James has officially announced that he’s heading to a brand new franchise. On Friday, he dropped the news that he’s joining the Philadelphia 76ers to round out his NBA career.
This decision obviously raises questions about Bronny James, LeBron’s son. They both played for the Los Angeles Lakers, and it’s no secret that LeBron and Bronny loved playing together.
Playing alongside his son became a hallmark of the later years of LeBron’s career. It was thrilling for fans to watch a man who they had really watched grow up on the court play alongside his son, who is also growing up before their eyes.
Status of Bronny James joining the Philadelphia 76ers in 2026
With LeBron going to the 76ers, it begs the question of whether Bronny will also play there. LeBron certainly wouldn’t be mad about that.
But not so fast. According to senior ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne, there are no plans for Los Angeles to let go of Bronny.
“As for the impact of LeBron James’ decision on his son Bronny James, Rich Paul, the agent for both, tells ESPN that ‘they are not a package deal’ and there’s no current plan or request for Bronny James to join his father in Philly,” Shelburne shared on X on Friday. “Bronny James recently had his contract guaranteed by the Lakers, whose staff has a fondness for him according to sources.”
Now, if Bronny stays with the Lakers, it will be really interesting to see if he ever has to play LeBron when these teams meet for games. Seeing Bronny and LeBron on opposite ends of the court for once will be a shocker.
