Guwahati. Due to incessant rains, the flood situation in Assam still remains very serious in Upper Assam. According to the data released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on July 24, 14 more deaths have been confirmed in the state.
Thus, the total number of deaths in the state so far has reached 61. The rivers flowing above the danger mark in Assam include Dikhow (Sivasagar), Disang (Nanglamuraghat), Dhansiri (Numaligarh), Kushiyara (Sribhoomi).
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is himself monitoring all measures on war footing to deal with the flood situation. Besides, state ministers have also been instructed to visit the affected areas and monitor them.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the Chief Minister had interacted with the flood affected District Magistrates through virtual mode and directed to speed up the relief work.
At present, a total of 12 districts have been affected by the floods. Which includes Golaghat, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Nagaon, Biswanath, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Kamrup (Metro), Karbi Anglong.
A total of 856 villages in 37 revenue divisions of 12 districts are affected by the floods. A total of 705148 population and 56606.777 hectares of agricultural land of the state are submerged in water.
The state government has set up a total of 363 camps, including 96 relief camps and 267 relief distribution centres, for the flood-affected people. 115205 people are taking shelter in relief camps. While 200056 non-camp residents are receiving relief at relief distribution centres.
The number of bodies recovered from the flood waters on July 24 was recorded at 14. In which 07 dead bodies were recovered in Charaidev, 06 in Sivasagar and 01 in Jorhat. The total number of animals affected by the flood has been recorded at 334020.
In which big 96483, small 53692 and poultry farming 183845 have been registered. Meanwhile, a total of 17107 animals were washed away in the flood waters. In which 04 animals in Jorhat district, 01 in Dibrugarh district and 17102 animals in Sivasagar district have been washed away in water.
SDRF, DDRF, NDRF, Police, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Circle Office/Local Administration, Civil Defence/trained volunteers and Fire Department are involved in flood relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the state government deployed a total of 139 medical teams in the flood affected areas. During this period, 63 boats were also engaged in relief work. 998 people trapped in flood water were rescued by boats.
Rice (in quintals): 2109.843, pulses (in quintals): 383.9254, salt (in quintals): 129.910021, mustard oil/mustard oil (in litres): 9646.0821 as well as animal fodder – wheat bran (in quintals): among the flood affected people. 4001.315 and animal feed – rice bran (in quintals): 571.502 relief material distributed.
The flood has caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The government is continuously holding review meetings regarding this. While talking to the media on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the flood situation in the state still remains very serious. Relief and security measures have been intensified.
