Several states in the country have been witnessing heavy rains for the past few days. However, on Saturday, several parts of the country saw a slight reduction in the intensity of the rains. Assam has witnessed floods after heavy rains. The floods have so far claimed 99 lives. Traffic has come to a standstill as 153 roads in Himachal Pradesh have been closed. Hundreds of people are living in relief camps in Kerala due to damage to houses and roads.
Over 1.55 lakh people have been affected by the floods in Assam, where the death toll has reached 99. 13 districts are still affected and the government will start a damage assessment for permanent rehabilitation in the four worst-hit eastern districts from Sunday. The national capital Delhi recorded its wettest day of August on Saturday, the highest in the last two years. The total rainfall in the first eight days of the month reached close to the monthly average.
Till 8.30 am on Saturday, 98.7 mm of rainfall was recorded, the highest since August 2024. Incessant rains disrupted traffic in many parts of Delhi, causing huge traffic jams on Kalindi Kunj border, ITO and Mehrauli-Badarpur road.

Heavy rains on Friday have caused waterlogging in many places, causing several walls and houses to collapse. A private parking wall collapsed in Deoli, damaging eight vehicles, while an 18-year-old youth went missing after being swept away in water at Priyanka Camp. Heavy rains have closed 153 roads in Himachal Pradesh, and the Shimla Meteorological Department has issued an ‘orange alert’ for Monday-Tuesday.
Many roads and houses submerged
The rains continued in Kerala on Saturday, although the floodwaters are gradually receding in many areas. Hundreds of people are still in relief camps as several roads and houses are submerged. Alappuzha and Kottayam districts are still affected by the floods. Traffic was disrupted and people in boats are being evacuated. In view of the rains, a holiday was declared on Saturday in all educational institutions in eight districts and officials have been asked to shift vulnerable residents to relief camps.
