In the World Junior Squash Championship played in Canada, 18-year-old Anahat Singh of India has given an amazing performance and won the title for the country for the first time. In the final match, she registered a historic achievement for India by defeating Ruqayya Salem of Egypt in straight games.

With this victory, Anahat Singh has become the first Indian player to become Junior World Squash Champion. In the women’s singles final played in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, top seed Anahat Singh won the title by defeating second seed Ruqayya Salem of Egypt 11-3, 11-7 and 11-9. Before this, India’s best performance was by Joshna Chinappa by finishing as runner-up in 2005. Anahat has now left that achievement behind and created a new history.

Anahat had also created history by winning the bronze medal in the Junior World Championship held in Cairo in 2025. Who is Anahat Singh?

Born on 13 March 2008, Anahat Singh was initially inclined towards badminton, but later she decided to make squash her career. Her hard work and talent made her one of the top junior players of India at an early age. His father Gursharan Singh is a lawyer by profession, while his mother Tani Vadehra Singh is an interior designer. Her elder sister Amira Singh is also a squash player and played an important role in Anahat’s sports journey.

After becoming India’s number one player in the Under-11 category at the junior level, Anahat continued her dominance in the Under-13 category as well. He achieved top positions not only in India, but also in Asia and Europe. In the year 2019, she made her mark at the international level by winning the gold medal in the Under-11 Girls category of the British Open Squash Championship. After this, she became the youngest Indian athlete to win a medal in the Games by winning two bronze medals in the women’s team and mixed doubles event in the 2023 Asian Games.
