However, the students received no satisfactory response. Despite Sunday being a holiday, the government may present a blueprint for action on the students’ demands. A crucial and final meeting between the government and students is scheduled for today, Sunday, August 9th, at 12:30 pm.
The students have also decided to take drastic action if the government does not accept their demands in this meeting. It is reported that if their demands are not met, the students are preparing to surround the Raj Bhavan on August 10th.
Following the talks, the students stated that the discussions with the government were positive, but no concrete decisions had yet been reached on their key demands. The students made it clear that assurances alone would not end the protest. They threatened to continue the previously announced Assembly siege if a concrete decision on their key demands was not reached by August 10th.
Representatives from the Government
Earlier, talks were held between the government and student representatives on Friday. Ministers Deepika Pandey Singh, Chamra Linda, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, and Sudibya Kumar Sonu participated in that meeting. The government pledged to listen seriously to the students’ demands and to consider suggestions for improving the examination system.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren also expressed his sensitivity to the students’ concerns during the dialogue with them. He stated that students’ questions, suggestions, and queries should be openly expressed. The government wants to move forward towards improving the recruitment and examination system based on the suggestions of the youth.
Conclusion of Meetings Held at the Chief Minister’s Residence
Meanwhile, the government is considering the conclusions of the discussions held so far at the meeting being held at the Chief Minister’s residence. Further strategy and possible decisions on the students’ demands are also expected to be discussed. Students have been protesting in Ranchi since July 29th against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations.
The protesters are demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary examination, an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities, and comprehensive reforms in the recruitment process. During the protest, several students have also gone on hunger strike. Some have been hospitalized after their health deteriorated.
