Prahlad Joshi took additional charge of Education Ministry, held a meeting with senior officials

New Delhi, 26 July. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi took additional charge as Union Education Minister on Sunday. After assuming charge, he also held a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Education Ministry. Joshi has been given this responsibility at a time when there is extensive discussion going on in the country on issues like education system, transparency of competitive examinations and effective implementation of the National Education Policy.

It is noteworthy that after the President accepted the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday, on the advice of the Prime Minister, Prahlad Joshi has been given additional charge of the Education Ministry. After assuming charge, Prahlad Joshi immediately talked to senior officials associated with the functioning of the Education Ministry. The Ministry of Education is a very important ministry related to the future of the country. For the new Education Minister, along with effective implementation of the National Education Policy, it is considered important to give new impetus to higher education, school education, skill development and research.

Today, I assumed charge as the Union Minister for Education.

Prahlad Joshi is counted among the senior ministers of the Central Government. He is currently holding the responsibility of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy. Before this, he has held the charge of important departments like Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Coal Minister and Mines Minister. He has been recognized as an experienced parliamentary strategist and leader with organizational abilities. Prahlad Joshi, who has been elected MP from Dharwad Lok Sabha seat of Karnataka for five consecutive times, is among the senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Due to his long parliamentary experience and administrative working style, he has been given many important responsibilities in the government. At present, the biggest challenge before Joshi is to strengthen the confidence of the people in the examination system of the country. Besides, his priority is to ensure transparency of competitive examinations and to speed up the ongoing reforms under the National Education Policy. Apart from this, improving the quality of school education, promoting research in higher education institutions, expanding digital education and strengthening skill-based education are also likely to be among his priorities.

It is believed that in the coming days, the ministry will work towards taking fast decisions on examination reforms, technology-based evaluation system, research in universities and pending issues related to students. Experts and students associated with the education sector will now keep an eye on how the new Education Minister deals with these challenges and at what pace he takes forward the process of reforming the education system.
