After the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the NEET paper leak controversy, the opposition is now preparing to put pressure on the central government regarding the alleged police action against students. A meeting will be held on Monday in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on the strategy of Indi alliance. In this meeting, the opposition’s stand on ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026’ will also be decided.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah demanding accountability for the alleged use of force on students who were protesting peacefully. He has asked whether permission was given to use force, including pellet guns. At the same time, Congress is calling Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation a victory for the students and is adamant on demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and action against the culprits.

The Anti-Paper Leak Amendment Bill, which will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday, has a provision for strict punishment for examination-related crimes. Under this, in cases like paper leak, there is a provision of 5 to 10 years of jail and a fine of up to ₹ 50 lakh, while for organized examination fraud, there is a provision of at least 7 years of jail and a fine of up to ₹ 10 crore.
