West Asia Crisis: Iranian media claims- Oil tanker exploded after hitting landmine in Hormuz.
New Delhi. According to Iranian media, a tanker has hit a sea mine after moving away from Tehran’s planned Hormuz route. An oil tanker is said to have exploded after hitting a mine in the Strait of Hormuz. The Tasnim news agency reported that the ship hit a sea mine after deviating from the route approved by Tehran on the vital sea route. Iranian officials have not yet commented on the incident.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired warning shots at six ships in the past 24 hours as they tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state television reported that the ships were prevented from continuing their voyage because they deviated from the ‘designated course’ set by Tehran. Also on Saturday, four ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz were stopped by the IRGC for passing without permission. Differences over shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz have been a major source of friction between the US and Iran, leading to recent confrontations in the region.
Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Akraminiya says that Tehran took steps to assert its rights over the Strait of Hormuz. This step was taken when the US tried to create a fake and illegal passage in the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the MoU signed in June. ‘In these operations, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran placed the US bases in Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain – which are considered the most important US bases in the region – at the center of their operations,’ he said, according to Tasnim news agency.
This MoU has broken due to the dispute between the US and Iran over the management of shipping routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz. America attacked Iran for 13 consecutive nights, in response to which Iran attacked American bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. According to American media reports, Trump halted the attacks on Friday out of concern over shortage of interceptor missile stocks and to create space for diplomacy.
