New Delhi. Have you ever heard of a house where the main door opens into one country and the back door into another? It may sound like a story straight out of a fictional movie, but in northeastern India, it’s completely true. There’s a house where a person sleeps within the Indian border, but has to travel to Myanmar to eat breakfast.
This interesting and unique place is Longwa Village, located in the Mon district of the Indian state of Nagaland. Nestled among dense forests and beautiful hills, this village is renowned worldwide for its geographical features and unique culture.
One House, Two Countries: The King’s Unique Palace The most striking feature of Longwa Village is that the international border between India and Myanmar divides the village into two parts, passing directly through the heart of its king’s house. The traditional king of the village is called “Angh” in the local language. Ang’s palace is so vast that half of it lies within India and the other half within Myanmar. Due to this geographical location, the king’s bedroom lies within Indian territory, while his main kitchen is located in Myanmar. This means that the king and his royal family live under the same roof, traveling between the two countries dozens of times each day without a passport or visa.
Rule two countries without a visa
The influence of the King of Longwa is not limited to just one village. He is considered the head of more than 70 villages spread across the border areas of Nagaland in India and Arunachal Pradesh in Myanmar. Despite being divided between two countries, this village of the Konyak Naga Tribe is united by its traditional system and loyalty to the King. Residents here do not need a visa or passport to cross the border between the two countries. The people of this village practically have access to the benefits of dual citizenship of both countries, and they cultivate and trade across both borders without any restrictions.
Longwa village is known not only for its unique border division, but also for its rich culture and historic headhunting past. Today, the village has become a major center of curiosity and attraction for tourists from India and around the world.
