Iran and Oman are signing an agreement aimed at creating a new route for shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. It is learned that the two countries have made a lot of progress on the agreement. If everything goes well, this much-awaited agreement will be completed soon. On Saturday, Oman said on this issue that the talks between the two countries were quite positive. However, Iran has made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened right away even if the agreement is completed.
The Strait of Hormuz has been practically closed since the war in the Middle East began on February 28. There have also been attacks in the Gulf of Oman on charges of taking ships without informing Iran. The two countries had chosen a solution through negotiations to overcome this war situation. It is learned that the talks have finally gained momentum, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the agreement between Tehran and Muscat on the opening of a new waterway in the Strait of Hormuz is almost final. However, even if there is an agreement, if America does not fulfill the conditions, Hormuz will not open right away.
Initially, the idea was to open this route for 60 days. The first 30 days of which will be used for mine clearance in the waterway.
It is learned that in this possible agreement, it has been decided that the two countries will temporarily work on an alternative shipping route until the legal issues of the permanent arrangement are resolved. According to the initial plan, ships entering the Persian Gulf through Hormuz will pass by the Iranian coast. And ships entering the Arabian Sea through the Gulf will pass by the Oman coast. Initially, the idea is to launch this route for 60 days. The first 30 days of which will be used for mine clearance in the waterway.
However, Iran has said that there is no question of opening Hormuz right now even if there is an agreement. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that Hormuz will not be opened until America corrects its behavior. Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar, the secretary of the National Security Council and commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has issued a statement. It is said that Hormuz will be opened only if America accepts Iran’s conditions. The conditions are – America must immediately stop attacking the Middle East, no threats can be made to Tehran, and war against Iran’s allies must also be stopped. In addition, the naval blockade of Iranian ports must be lifted, troops must be withdrawn. In addition, America must pay compensation to Iran, lift all sanctions imposed on Tehran, and release confiscated assets.
