‘My children don’t listen to me’, why did Himanta start giving clarification on GenZ protest?

Keshav Mahanta, a minister in the Assam government, is the target of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters. His daughter Dibisha Mahanta had opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government in the NEET paper leak case and was also seen with the protesters. People taunted that BJP’s children are also troubled by BJP’s policies, are not able to take care of their loved ones, and impose their ideology on others. Amid trolling, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has supported his cabinet colleague Keshav Mahanta.

Keshav Mahant’s daughter had protested against the irregularities in the NEET exam. The video went viral on social media. Keshav Mahant had to face a lot of trolling and questions were also raised on the credibility of the government. Chief Minister Sarma said in a press conference on Saturday that children should not be held responsible for the political ideology of their parents.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam:-
My brother does not listen to me. Even my children do not agree with many of the things I say. It is not necessary that your political thinking be the same as that of your parents. I am saddened by what he said about PM Modi. I will talk when I meet him.

Himanta Biswa Sarma gave his own example and said that his brothers do not listen to him and his children also do not listen to everything he says. He said that ideology should not be seen from this perspective. People of the same family may have different thinking. There is nothing wrong in this.

‘Parents should not be dragged into the matter of their children’

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘Parents should not be dragged into controversy regarding the work of their children. Keshav Mahant is currently busy helping the flood affected people. In such a situation, they should not be troubled mentally.

Keshav Mahanta is currently in such a situation that it is his duty to help the people affected by the floods in the state. If we put mental pressure on them, it will not benefit us. Don’t be surprised if my son says something wrong. Maybe tomorrow my son will become a lawyer and work for someone I don’t like. There is no point in dragging parents into this after the children have grown up.

‘Parents are not responsible for their child’s work’

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘If tomorrow my son becomes a lawyer and works for someone whom I do not like, it does not mean that I should be dragged into the controversy. When children grow up, parents should not be held accountable for their every decision.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his opinion on the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. He said, ‘It was his personal decision. He did a lot of work for Assam, especially helped in opening IIM in Assam. He has made a major contribution in implementing the new education policy. History will remember him for this and will judge him positively.

From June 4, protests led by Cockroach Janata Party had started at Jantar Mantar against Dharmendra Pradhan in the NEET paper leak case. Sonam Wangchuk sat on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. People from all over the country supported. The daughter of Keshav Mahanta, an Assam government minister, also joined the protests.
