Security agencies have begun cracking down on those using internet media as a medium for spreading radicalism and terrorist ideology. Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Saturday arrested Siraj Nabi Parray, a resident of Archanderhama, Magam, Budgam. Parray was found to be operating a social media account that was allegedly disseminating radical content of a potentially extremist nature.
CIK’s investigation revealed content on his internet media handle that glorifies terrorists and incites local youth to become terrorists and take up arms against the country.
According to CIK, during its monitoring of suspicious elements on internet media, numerous posts, photos, and other digital content were uncovered. These allegedly included content promoting radical narratives, glorifying individuals associated with terrorism, and influencing youth and other vulnerable groups. The agency believes such content could be used to attract or influence people towards radicalism.
Produced Before Magistrate, Sent to Jail
Following the proceedings, Siraj Nabi Parray was produced before a first-class executive magistrate. Proceedings were initiated against him under Sections 126/170 of the IPC. On the magistrate’s order, the accused was remanded to judicial custody from August 8 to August 17, 2026. He is lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. The CIK is examining the accused’s digital devices and internet media activities. The investigation is attempting to identify the source of the alleged radical content, the accounts and contacts involved in its dissemination, and any possible network links. The agency is also investigating the extent of this activity on internet media.
Security agencies have advised parents and youth to exercise special vigilance on internet media. Police have urged them not to share or forward any content that glorifies terrorism, promotes radical ideas, or incites violence or hatred. They have also urged them to avoid contact with suspicious accounts and unknown individuals. If they encounter such content, they should report it to the police instead of spreading it further.
Police Raid Five Districts Over Radicalisation, Recruitment
Meanwhile, in a major pre-dawn crackdown, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter-Intelligence Wing on Saturday conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations across Kashmir in connection with an alleged network involved in the online glorification of terrorism, radicalisation, and recruitment of vulnerable youth into terrorist ranks.
The coordinated searches were carried out in Baramulla, Shopian, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Bandipora following fresh intelligence inputs suggesting attempts by terror outfits to revive their networks in the Valley through digital platforms and clandestine recruitment channels.
The operations are linked to a case concerning the alleged systematic misuse of social media platforms to glorify terrorism, circulate extremist propaganda, and influence young people to join banned terrorist organisations.
In Shopian, the residence of Usman Gulzar, who is currently lodged in a jail in Jammu, was searched by the security agency as part of the investigation.
In Kupwara, a raid was conducted at the residence of Babar Dar over allegations concerning the misuse of SIM cards for disseminating terrorist propaganda and extremist material through social media platforms.
In Bandipora, the residence of a woman identified as Laali was also searched in connection with allegations of online radicalisation.
Officials said the searches were aimed at uncovering evidence relating to digital communication, social media activity, financial or logistical links, and other possible connections with terrorist networks. Further details about recoveries, if any, were not immediately available.
Security agencies have been increasingly focusing on the use of social media, messaging applications, and other digital platforms by terrorist organisations and their associates to spread propaganda and identify potential recruits.
