The Indian team has received good news about the fitness of captain Shubman Gill ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting from August 15. Ahead of this Test series, Team India is playing a three-day practice match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI at the NCC Ground in Colombo. Gill did not take the field for the first two days due to a finger injury and was replaced by KL Rahul as the captain. Now, on the third day of this practice match, when Team India came out to chase a target of 207 runs, captain Shubman Gill came to bat as an opener with Yashasvi Jaiswal. As soon as Gill came on the field, it was confirmed that he is now fully fit before the start of the Test series.
As play began on the third day of the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket XI, Shubman Gill went to the nets to test his fitness, batted without any problems. He then decided to bat in Team India’s second innings, starting the innings at a different position. Gill bats at number four in Test cricket. Shubman Gill faced 54 balls and scored 44 runs, hitting seven fours, which confirms his fitness.
Captain Shubman Gill’s fitness ahead of the Test series is a relief for Team India, while Devdutt Padikkal’s form has certainly eased the tension surrounding the No. 3 position. Sai Sudarshan’s exclusion from the Test series had created a problem for Team India’s No. 3 position, but Padikkal has fully solidified his claim for the position by scoring an unbeaten 142 in the warm-up match.
