Fans of The Rookie don’t have to wait long for the upcoming season 9 as the police procedural, action and comedy-drama is in production.
The cast and crew of the hit ABC crime drama offered exciting hints about what is to come ahead after the jaw-dropping cliffhanger at San Diego Comic Con 2026 on July 25.
The Season 8 finale left fans on the edge of their seats with its jaw-dropping ending.
Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) were kidnapped by henchmen working for Heath Everett (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) shortly after their engagement, which left fans questioning their fate.
Now, fans will have to wait for answers, as the cast kept Tim and Lucy’s fate under wraps.
However, Alexi Hawley revealed that production on Season 9 started “last week,” with new episodes arriving in January.
Adding to fans’ excitement, Alexi Hawley, 59, revealed at Comic-Con that Season 9 will open with a “huge” two-part premiere, rather than wrapping up the cliffhanger in just one episode.
Teasing what’s to come, the showrunner said Season 9 has “a lot going on,” calling it “the best of what we do” while promising an “incredibly high stakes” and deeply dramatic story.
The next chapter of The Rookie is expected to unfold when Season 9 premieres on ABC in January 2027.
