The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been trying to get Hardik Pandya on board for the upcoming IPL 2027. However, the talks between CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) have taken a surprising turn as the former has refused to meet MI’s demands. As per the latest report, MI wants youngster Ayush Mhatre and some portion of money as a replacement for Hardik.
But CSK is not interested in meeting MI’s request as the 19-year-old is a part of their future plans. However, a lucrative proposal from CSK might change the equation as they have offered to give a South African batter, Dewald Brevis, India’s all-rounder Shivam Dube, and Rs 10 crore to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Hardik Pandya.
CSK stand firm on Mhatre as Mumbai seek major return
As per the report by the Hindustan Times, Mumbai Indians want a huge return for Pandya. They believe that Ayush Mhatre is a crucial part of their future, and the young opener has displayed his talent in IPL 2026, smashing a strike rate of near 180.
CSK is determined to keep Mhatre, and they do not want to include him in the deal, sources said. Their latest offer of Brevis, Dube, and 10 crore is believed to be worth more than 20 crore as Mumbai would get an experienced Indian all-rounder, a fearful overseas hitter, and extra money.
Despite a relatively average IPL 2026 where he scored 206 runs and took four wickets, Pandya continues to be one of the most valuable players in the league. He is one of the few all-rounders who can bat and bowl at the top of the order, leading the team, and he does not eat into the overseas slots as he is an Indian.
The situation is tense as neither side has made an official approach yet. It is believed that both teams have a point as Mumbai wants to trade their prized young asset, and CSK does not want to part with one of their rising stars. Kolkata Knight Riders have been monitoring the situation and are prepared to make a move if the deal between CSK and Mumbai falls through, the report said.
