Guwahati. The Assam government has begun assessing the damage caused by the floods in the state. Normal life is still severely affected in the Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts of Upper Assam.
According to data from the State Disaster Management Authority as of August 9, the Dhansiri River (Numaligarh and Golaghat) and the Kusiara River (Sribhumi) are flowing above the danger mark.
On Sunday, one body was recovered in Golaghat district and one in Karbi Anglong district. This brings the total number of deaths due to floods in the state to 101.
Currently, 10 districts: Golaghat, Sivasagar, Hojai, Darrang, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Charaideo, Nagaon, and Biswanath are affected by the floods.
A total of 456 villages in 28 revenue divisions of these 10 districts are affected. Currently, a total of 137,290 people in the state are still affected, and 11,933.46 hectares of agricultural land is submerged.
The state government continues to operate a total of 125 relief camps, including 52 relief camps and 73 relief distribution centers, for the affected people. 8,000 people are sheltering in the relief camps. 41,061 non-camp residents are receiving relief at the distribution centers.
The SDRF, Army/Paramilitary Forces, NDRF, DDRF, Air Force, Police, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Circle Offices/Local Administrations, Civil Defence/Trained Volunteers, and the Fire Department are engaged in the relief and rescue operations. The floods have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
