Traffic restrictions imposed on these roads in Delhi due to Kanwar Yatra; find out which routes have been diverted.

New Delhi: The Kanwar Yatra is impacting traffic in Delhi. In response to the increasing number of Kanwariyas, the Delhi Traffic Police have restricted vehicular movement on several major routes. Drivers may face difficulties, especially on the Shahdara GT Road and its adjoining roads. Therefore, it is important to seek information about alternative routes before leaving home.

Traffic congestion on the Shahdara GT Road

Traffic congestion has increased on the Shahdara GT Road due to the Kanwariyas’ large crowds. Normal vehicular movement has been affected on the stretch from Apsara Border to Kashmiri Gate. This could also lead to traffic jams in areas such as Anand Vihar, Seemapuri, Vivek Vihar, Shahdara, Wazirabad Road, Swami Dayanand Marg, and Loni Road.

As crowds increase, the police are closing certain sections as needed and diverting traffic to other routes. This could significantly increase normal travel times in many areas.

Where have route diversions been implemented?

According to the traffic police, vehicles traveling from Anand Vihar and Seemapuri toward Kashmere Gate have been advised to avoid the Shahdara GT Road. Traffic is also being controlled around the Apsara border.

Vehicles approaching Kashav Chowk from Vivek Vihar and Jagatpuri may also be prevented from traveling toward the GT Road. Such vehicles are being diverted via available alternative routes and underpasses.

Bus routes also changed

Buses traveling from Anand Vihar and Seemapuri to Kashmere Gate are being diverted via alternative routes instead of the Shahdara GT Road. Passengers are advised to avoid crowded areas and use the metro if possible.

Restrictions in effect until August 12

According to reports, vehicle movement may remain restricted on some sections of the Shahdara GT Road until August 12. The police have urged people to check official updates from the Delhi Traffic Police before embarking on their journey.

Traffic plans may also be altered if crowds increase during the Kanwar Yatra. Therefore, it would be better for drivers to get information about the latest situation before leaving on the route.
