Former India player VVS Laxman seamlessly took over the coaching job ahead of the Zimbabwe tour. The Men in Blue won the series with a 3-0 margin and ended their losing run in this format. Before this, the team had played a total of seven games in Ireland and England and didn’t manage to win even a single game.
After the series win in Zimbabwe, BCCI posted a video where the coach was seen spending quality time with the team. The video has raised massive questions on Gautam Gambhir’s future, especially with the review meet set to take place. Gambhir has helped India win two ICC titles as well as one Asia Cup, but his coaching record in bilateral cricket is not great.
Laxman was seen congratulating Shreyas Iyer for his first series win as the captain. The visiting side won the first game by 7 wickets, and then wrapped up the series on Saturday after securing a 90-run victory. The final game of the series saw the home team lose by 35 runs.

VVS began by saying, “Firstly, a big round of applause to everyone. We had set out to win the series, and that’s what we aspired to do. I would like to congratulate Shreyas because he had a rough start to his captaincy career, but the way he came back, right from the first day when he joined us, he was very optimistic”
“It is a new group of players. We know that only four or five players who were there in England joined us on this tour. But he was so confident and a lot of credit for this victory should be given to the captain, the way he encouraged each one of you.”
In return, captain Iyer thanked the coach for the confidence after the series. The tour also gave a chance for players like Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur to make their international debuts. Vaibhav Sooryvanshi also played a stellar role with the bat and was named player of the series.
Laxman also clarified the comparison between Laxman and Gambhir.
“The captain, head coach and the support staff were there in England for the ODI series, and now they will be in Sri Lanka for the Test series. This is the break they have, and that’s the reason I came in,” Laxman mentioned.
“This has been happening for the past four years since I became the head of the COE.’
