Now you will get sparkling clean bedsheets in the train: AI installed in laundry to check the quality of washing

Technology Desk – Indian Railways AI Linen Cleaning: Complaints from passengers have often come to the fore regarding the cleaning of bedsheets or pillow covers received while traveling in the train. To reduce this problem, Indian Railways has started connecting its laundry system with modern technology. Now the washed linen will be checked with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), so that only clean and quality bedrolls reach the passengers.

AI cameras will automatically recognize stains and dirt

Under the new system, AI based cameras have been installed in the mechanized laundries of the Railways. These cameras will analyze images of each bedsheet, pillow cover and other clothes after the wash is complete. If any stain, dust or any lack of cleanliness is found on any cloth, the system will immediately separate it. With this, incompletely cleaned linen will be stopped before it reaches the passengers.

Presently new technology started at these places

Railways has currently started this technology as a pilot project. It has started with the mechanized laundry of Pune Division of Central Railway and Jaipur and Jodhpur Division of North Western Railway. If initial results are good, it can be implemented in other railway zones also.

The entire washing process will be monitored through CCTV.

Railways has not limited itself to just AI cameras. CCTV cameras installed in the laundry will keep an eye on the entire washing process. This will ensure that each step is completed correctly as per the set standards. Besides, to check the quality of cleaning, special White-Meter machines are also being used, which check the level of whiteness and cleanliness of clothes.

What do AC passengers get in bedroll?

According to the Railways, passengers traveling in AC coaches are given two bedsheets, one pillow cover and one hand towel in a pack. One sheet is meant to be laid on the seat, while the other is used between the blanket and the body, so that the blanket does not come in direct contact with the body. This cover sheet is washed after every use.

Blanket cover facility is also being increased

To provide cleaner and more comfortable journey to the passengers, Railways is also providing blanket covers in some trains. At present this facility is being provided in North Western Railway trains and Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat sleeper service. Railways says that this initiative has received positive response from passengers.

Old linen will also be changed on time

Railways has clarified that every bedsheet, pillow cover and other linen has a fixed shelf life. Their condition is checked from time to time and items that do not meet the prescribed standards are replaced with new linen. The new technology aims to provide passengers with cleaner, safer and better quality bedrolls than ever before.
