The political temperature in Uttar Pradesh has reached new heights ahead of the by-elections. A social media post by Dinanath Bhaskar, BJP MLA from the Aurai (reserved) seat in Bhadohi district, former minister, and chairman of the Legislative Assembly, has caused such a stir in the state’s political landscape that even the Samajwadi Party (SP) office in Lucknow has been shaken. Following the MLA’s claim, there’s now a heated debate about whether some senior SP leaders are in behind-the-scenes contact with the BJP. The case started with the Sanatan controversy and an open offer was made on SP leaders.
The entire controversy began with a scathing social media post by BJP MLA Dinanath Bhaskar, in which he spoke openly about Sanatan Dharma, writing that Sanatan Dharma has been immortal for centuries and will remain immortal forever. He further sarcastically wrote that if opposition leaders hate Sanatan Dharma so much, then Samajwadi Party and Congress leaders should marry within Muslims.
The matter didn’t end there. The MLA further made a major political statement, claiming that former SP candidate Anjani Saroj and former MLA Madhubala Pasi Saroj have been secretly meeting senior BJP leaders. Bhaskar even made an open offer to both women leaders, saying that instead of meeting behind the scenes, they should join the Bharatiya Janata Party directly, and he would welcome them with open arms.
The silence of SP leaders and the fire burning inside
This sensational claim by the BJP MLA caused a stir in political circles. SP candidate Anjani Saroj, who lost the last assembly election by a narrow margin of just 1,647 votes, wrote a lengthy post on social media to respond to Bhaskar’s allegations, questioning the MLA’s development work and demanding the police file an FIR. However, she made no clear statement about whether she would remain with the Samajwadi Party.
Meanwhile, another former MLA, Madhubala Pasi, instead of offering a direct explanation of the BJP MLA’s claim, said in a poetic tone, “The army is yours, the leader is yours, you can write lies as truth, the newspaper is yours.” This deliberate silence and vague response from these two women leaders has further fueled the BJP MLA’s claims.
The MLA became the target of his own people and politics heated up even in Lucknow.
This controversy wasn’t limited to the opposition, but also sparked a fierce debate within the party. Outgoing BJP district minister Chandulal Chandrakar also jumped into the fray, calling himself a son of Aurai and leveling serious allegations against Dinanath Bhaskar. He even went so far as to say that Bhaskar was acting like a cobra within the party because the public liked him more.
However, this political storm that arose in Bhadohi has now crossed the borders of Purvanchal and reached the SP’s state headquarters in Lucknow. Among Akhilesh Yadav’s close associates and party workers, speculation has intensified about why the SP leader from Aurai is secretly in contact with the BJP. Anjani Saroj’s refusal to explicitly deny her allegiance has become a major concern for the Samajwadi Party.
