Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s early screening has earned both positive and worrying reviews. Moreover, many have compared the fourth installment of the Tom Holland-starrer superhero film to the Sam Raimi trilogy, in the best and worst ways possible.
A reviewer on X, @theholofiles, compared the upcoming movie to Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 starring Tobey Maguire. This movie was not well received by the audiences who loved the previous movies in the trilogy. The reviewer wrote, “Spider-Man Brand New Day is a mixed bag. It evokes the very best and the very worst of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.”
It further reads, “Unfortunately, the film mirrors Spider-Man 3 in being overstuffed with far too many elements and having stop-start pacing.”
However, other reviews are positively comparing the latest movie to Raimi’s second franchise installment. In Spider-Man 2, the focus gets shifted from the friendly-neighborhood web-slinger to Peter Parker’s story. Director Destin Daniel Cretton takes a similar approach to Holland’s character in Brand New Day.
Reviewer @mikeryan wrote on X, “SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is a much more cerebral followup than the crowd pleasing No Way Home. It’s Tom Holland’s best performance as Peter Parker and the best Spider-Man movie since Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN 2. Also the costume finally looks incredible.”
In the new Spider-Man 4, Peter faces a new isolated challenge with multiple adversaries in a world that has long forgotten him. Unlike the previous movies, audiences get to see a new and mature side of the wall-crawler, making his story more human than that of a superhero.
Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is actively involved with the MCU
Raimi, who helmed the original Spider-Man movies, is regarded as one of the best directors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is currently actively working on and assisting multiple projects; however, no MCU project is slated under him as of now.
Previously, he was consulted for No Way Home, where he provided input on the character as well as the villains. He also helmed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the second movie in the installment. Moreover, he is rumored to direct the third installment as well, although Marvel has not confirmed this.
