A total reward of 1 crore was declared on him by various states. He was considered the main strategist of Maoist activities in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha for over a decade and a half. Misir Besra played a key role in strengthening the Maoist network in the dense forests of Saranda, Paharhat and Kolhan.
According to security agencies, he was responsible for strategizing the organization’s military operations, managing armed forces, recruiting new cadres, collecting levies and coordinating between different zones. His name has been in the limelight for a long time in planning several major attacks against security forces and managing the organization’s activities.
Misir Besra’s arrest is considered the biggest crackdown so far against the top leadership of the Maoist outfit in Jharkhand.
