In Delhi, it has been announced to provide financial assistance to eligible families with ration cards on Diwali and Holi, while in Uttar Pradesh, eligible beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme are given the benefit of free LPG cylinder refill on Diwali. However, the rules of the scheme are different in both the states.
Who will get the benefit of LPG on Diwali in Delhi?
According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, eligible families with ration cards can come under the purview of this scheme. The special thing is that its benefits are not limited only to families using LPG.
Even if a ration card holding family has PNG Connection, it will be given financial assistance on two occasions in a year – Diwali and Holi. This means that it is not necessary for an eligible family in Delhi to have refilled the LPG Cylinder in the same month. The basis of the scheme is said to be eligible ration card.
Ujjwala beneficiaries will get free LPG refill in UP
Free LPG Cylinder Refill Scheme was started in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2022. Under this, the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana get the benefit of free LPG Cylinder refill on the occasion of Diwali. Free cylinder refill facility is provided to eligible beneficiaries in the state on the occasion of Diwali and Holi. That is, the benefit here is directly linked to the eligible beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme.
Ujjwala Scheme was started in 2016
The Central Government had started the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana i.e. PMUY in the year 2016. Its objective was to provide LPG connections to eligible poor families and shift them from traditional fuels to clean cooking fuels.
Under the Ujjwala scheme, eligible beneficiaries get the benefit of subsidy on LPG. According to the details given, initially there was a provision of subsidy up to 9 cylinders in a year, which was later reduced to 4 cylinders.
What is the price of LPG Cylinder in Delhi?
The price of 14.2 kg LPG Cylinder in Delhi is said to be Rs 942. Beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme get this cylinder at an effectively lower price due to subsidy. At the same time, ration card holders who are not beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme have to pay Rs 942 as per the normal rate.

To get a new Ujjwala Connection, first go to the official website of PM Ujjwala Yojana.
- Select Apply for New PMUY Connection option.
- Select Ujjwala Connection 3.0 from the available options.
- Select your State and District.
- Select the LPG Distributor of your area.
- Enter Mobile Number, Captcha and OTP.
- After this complete the process of e-KYC.
- Enter information related to ration card.
- Fill all the information asked in the application form.
- Upload necessary documents.
- Fill the information of family members and details like Bank Account, IFSC Code carefully.
- After checking all the information again, submit the form. Benefit of Free Cylinder depends on the rules of the state
The eligibility rules for announcements related to LPG are different in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, merely having a ration card is not a guarantee of getting a free cylinder in every situation. In Uttar Pradesh, the benefit is mainly related to Ujjwala beneficiaries, while the Delhi announcement said that eligible ration card families and eligible families with PNG connection will also be included.
