New Delhi. In today's era, YouTube is not just a source of entertainment but has also become a major source of income for millions of people. But if you are also dreaming of earning money by becoming a content creator, then you will have to double your preparation. Actually, YouTube has made a major change in the terms of its Partner Program (YPP) and has made the rules of monetization more strict than before. According to the company, this new policy will be fully implemented from February 1, 2027.
Now double the conditions for monetization
Monetizing the channel is the first step to start earning from YouTube. Till now new creators had to complete 4,000 hours of watch time within a year, but under the new policy this figure has been directly doubled to 8,000 hours. At the same time, the target has also been increased for those making short videos, earlier where 1 crore shorts views were required in 90 days, now it has been increased to 2 crore views.
Old creators need not worry
The news of this change is bound to raise questions in the minds of those who are already earning from YouTube. But the company has made it clear that this new rule will not have any impact on those who are already part of the YouTube Partner Program. These new conditions will be applicable only to those who want to join this program in future.
New difficulty for shorts creators
Another strict condition has been added for those earning through shorts videos. According to the new rules, if you want to continue sharing advertising and subscription revenue from Shorts, you will have to prove that your channel is getting 10 million views every 90 days.
If a creator misses this target, they will not be kicked out of the Partner Program, but their earnings will be stopped until they cross the 10 million views mark again. However, the company has also suggested some new ways of earning like YouTube shopping bonuses for those with low views, brand deals and for those promoting new trends.
Views alone will not suffice
The methods of earning money are changing rapidly in the digital world. Not only YouTube, but big platforms like X and Facebook are also reinventing their creator economy. Recently, X has started giving preference to original content in its payout system, while Facebook has introduced its new monetization program for creators.
All this is a direct indication that now it will be difficult to survive only on views. In the times to come, new creators will have to have a deeper connection with the audience and focus entirely on original content, only then will they be able to survive in this changing digital environment.
