Patna. A major step is being taken to provide relief from traffic jam in Bihar's capital Patna and to make transportation easier between North and South Bihar. Construction of the six-lane greenfield road on the Kanhauli-Sherpur stretch of Patna Ring Road is expected to begin from October. The land acquisition work for this approximately 9 kilometer long road is going on at a fast pace.
About Rs 778 crore will be spent on this project. The central and state governments are bearing this cost half each. About 177 acres of land is to be acquired for the project. Of this, about 71 acres are in Bihta and 105 acres are in Maner area. Along with checking the documents of the tenants of the concerned villages, the process of giving compensation is also being taken forward.
Patna city will get relief from jam
The junction to be built near Kanhauli will be connected to Kanhauli-Ramnagar, Danapur-Bihta and Sherpur-Kanhauli routes. About 1.5 kilometer long ramp will also be built to go towards Kanhauli Golambar. After this, the need for heavy vehicles to enter Patna city will reduce.
Goods vehicles coming from Chapra, Siwan and Muzaffarpur will be able to go directly towards South Bihar and Jharkhand through Sherpur-Kanauli route. This is expected to reduce the traffic pressure on Danapur, Khagaul, Saguna Mod and Bailey Road.
People of Bihta and Maner also benefit
After the six-lane road connects to the Bihta-Danapur elevated road, access to Bihta Airport, IIT Patna and surrounding industrial areas can become easier. Many villages in Maner and Bihta areas will also get better road connectivity.
Network will be connected to Patna, Saran and Vaishali
The Sherpur-Kanauli road network will connect Patna, Saran and Vaishali districts. It will also be connected to the Ganga bridge being built between Sherpur-Dighwara. Further this route will be connected to Bihta-Sarmera road and Kachchi Dargah-Bidupur Ganga bridge. After the completion of the ongoing road construction between Dighwara to Bidupur, connectivity between North and South Bihar will be further strengthened.
