The authority summoned a report from the operating company Yamuna International Airport Private Limited. The company responded by blaming excessive rainfall as the reason for the waterlogging and said the water was removed in about 30 minutes.
Jewar airport subway filled with water
A case of water accumulation came to light in the subway of Noida International Airport after heavy rain on Tuesday. Videos surfaced on internet media showed waterlogging in the subway connecting the terminal building and the parking lot. During this time, airport employees were seen trying to drain the water. After the video of the incident surfaced, discussion started regarding the drainage system of the airport.
This subway provides vital connectivity for passenger movement within the airport complex. In such a situation, there was a possibility of trouble for the passengers due to waterlogging here. However, the company has claimed to control the situation soon.
NIAL summoned report from Yapal
Taking cognizance of the waterlogging incident, Noida International Airport Limited sought a report on the entire matter from Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, which is operating the airport. According to NIAL Nodal Officer Shailendra Bhatia, after the video of waterlogging surfaced on social media, an answer was sought from the company regarding the situation and reasons.
The report has been sent to NIAL by Yapal. The company has said in its response that there was excessive rainfall within a short period of time, which led to water logging in the subway. According to the company, drainage work was immediately started to control the situation.
Claim to remove water in 30 minutes
According to Yapal, the water accumulated in the subway was removed within about 30 minutes. During this period, alternative routes were used to avoid affecting the movement of passengers. After the water was drained, the subway was reopened for passengers.
The company says that the waterlogging did not last long and the situation was soon brought back to normal through the drainage system. However, after NIAL sought a report, it is now being seen how the drainage system worked during heavy rains and what steps can be taken to deal with such situations in future.
Akhilesh Yadav took aim
The incident of water filling in the subway of Jewar Airport also became a topic of political discussion. SP President Akhilesh Yadav posted on social media platform X and took a dig at the government regarding waterlogging at the airport. He asked in a questioning manner whether the boat would run at the airport now.
After Akhilesh Yadav's comment, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh also reacted. In this way, the issue of waterlogging at the airport has also come up amidst political rhetoric.
Questions raised on airport preparations
Noida International Airport was inaugurated on March 28 and information was given that passenger services would start here from June 15. In such a situation, after the commencement of passenger service, the incident of waterlogging in the airport subway has raised questions regarding its rain and drainage system.
At present, NIAL has collected information about the matter by taking a report from the operating company. Yapal has cited excessive rain as the main reason for waterlogging and claimed to remove the water soon.
