Youth in debt due to online betting commits robbery and violence, police arrested

Khammmm. A shocking case has come to light from Khammam district of Telangana, where a 26-year-old youth, addicted to online betting, brutally murdered an elderly woman living in his neighborhood by hitting her with an iron rod. The local police, showing promptness, has arrested the main accused and one of his associates.

Conspiracy hatched to repay loan

According to information received from the police, the main accused has been identified as Aithnaboina Prashant, who ran a chicken shop in Pindiprolu village. Prashant was addicted to online betting and alcohol, due to which he was in huge debt. To repay his debt and arrange money, he hatched a dreadful conspiracy of robbery.

Attack with iron rod on protesting

Last month, on the night of July 17, Prashant entered the house of Suguna, an elderly woman living in his neighbourhood, with the intention of robbing gold jewellery. When Suguna saw Prashant in the house, he started making noise. Fearing that he would be caught, the accused Prashant hit the elderly woman on the head with a heavy iron rod kept nearby, due to which she died on the spot. After committing the crime, the accused fled away after looting the gold chain and precious gold beads from the woman's neck. Looted gold mortgaged in the bank: After this incident of murder and robbery, Prashant handed over the stolen gold chain to his brother-in-law Sarganda Mahesh (20). While supporting him in this crime, Mahesh mortgaged the gold in his name in a local bank of Khammam and took a loan of about Rs 1.50 lakh in return.

Police action and arrest

On receiving information about this heart-wrenching incident, the police started a thorough investigation into the matter. The special team formed under the leadership of Khammam ACP 'Tirupati Reddy' scrutinized the records of financial transactions and mortgaged gold, due to which the police managed to track down the accused. Police set up a blockade near Tirumalayapalem Road and arrested the main accused Aithnaboina Prashanth and his brother-in-law Sarganda Mahesh. At present, the police have also seized the looted gold and the motorcycle used in the crime from the accused. The police have registered a case of murder, robbery and destruction of evidence against both the accused and are pursuing further legal proceedings.
