The first Drone Run has been started in Assam to deliver bags to the branch post office. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared this information. There are plans to develop 150 drone routes in Assam and Himachal.
Assam: The use of drone technology has been started to deliver mail in Assam, which is suffering from floods and inaccessible areas. While sharing the video of the first Drone Run, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the bags of the branch post office were delivered through drones. With this technology, efforts are being made to make postal service in remote areas fast, reliable and trackable.
First Drone Run started in Assam
Drones have been used to deliver mail to remote areas in Assam. The first Drone Run was started to transport branch post office bags from one place to another. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared its video on social media.
This initiative is considered important especially for those areas where it is difficult to reach by road. Efforts are being made to deliver essential postal items to the designated destination in a short time through drones.
150 route drone network in Assam and Himachal
About 150 drone routes are being developed in Assam and Himachal Pradesh to strengthen postal service in remote areas. Information has been given that these include 40 routes in Assam alone.
Through drone network, it will be possible to rapidly deliver mail from one place to another and its tracking will also be possible. This can help improve delivery systems in areas where traditional transportation systems are affected by weather or geographical conditions.
Some drones can carry up to 10 kg of goods
Skye Air Mobility’s technology is being used for the drone network. The company has AI-powered autonomous drones. According to available information, some drones can fly about 30 kilometers with a payload of up to 10 kg.
Some other models are said to be capable of covering greater distances than this. Autonomous technology is used in these drones, through which they can complete processes like taking off and landing on the basis of prescribed systems.
Technology can prove more useful in flood affected Assam
Roads and transport system are affected every year due to floods in Assam. In such circumstances, delivering essential goods and services to many areas becomes a challenge.
Drones may also provide an option to deliver mail and essential items in case roads or bridges are blocked. This is expected to help maintain connectivity to remote areas in case of disaster or emergency.
Jyotiraditya Scindia gave an example of technology based service
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, while sharing the video of Drone Run, linked it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of technology-based public service. He said that the Postal Department is adopting new technologies to provide services to different parts of the country and strengthen its network.
This drone experiment, which started in Assam, can open the way for the future use of technology for delivery of other essential services besides postal service in remote and disaster affected areas.
