Delhi will get another skywalk, the problem of jam and crossing the road will end.

To increase the convenience of pedestrians and road safety at the busy Nirman Vihar traffic signal in East Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a plan to build a skywalk. The proposed skywalk will be designed in such a way that pedestrians commuting on Vikas Marg and Patparganj Road and people crossing the road can easily use it. Before finalizing the project, PWD will conduct a drone survey of the area. Through the survey, traffic conditions, pedestrian movement, road width and surrounding structures will be assessed. Based on this, the detailed design and construction plan of the skywalk will be prepared.

Why the need for skywalk? PWD gave the reason

According to PWD officials, Nirman Vihar traffic signal is one of the busiest junctions in East Delhi. Along with being the major intersection of Vikas Marg and Patparganj Road, Nirman Vihar Metro Station, V3S Mall, many coaching centres, markets and various offices are located nearby. Officials say that due to these institutions and commercial activities, thousands of pedestrians cross the road at this junction every day. Crossing the road amidst heavy traffic proves to be risky for the people, due to which there is a possibility of accidents.

Keeping this problem in mind, PWD has prepared a plan for the construction of a skywalk here. The proposed skywalk will allow pedestrians to move safely from one side to the other without having to step on the road. Officials said that residents of the area and local businessmen had also been demanding to build a foot over bridge (FOB) or skywalk here for a long time. People said that due to metro stations, malls and coaching institutes, a large number of students, employees and other people cross the road every day, hence the need for a safe walkway was felt.

According to PWD officials, the design of the proposed skywalk in Nirman Vihar will be somewhat different from the ITO skywalk. The most special thing about this project will be that all its wings will be interconnected, so that pedestrians will not have to use separate foot over bridges to go in any direction. Officials said that the skywalk will be designed in such a way that people traveling towards Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Laxmi Nagar and V3S Mall can easily move from one direction to the other. For example, if a person wants to go to Laxmi Nagar from Preet Vihar or Nirman Vihar, he will not need to get on the road. Similarly, people coming from V3S Mall will also be able to go directly towards Laxmi Nagar or Nirman Vihar. There are also plans to install four lifts to make the skywalk more convenient and inclusive. This will help the elderly, disabled, children and other passengers to easily access the skywalk without using stairs.

Keeping in mind the convenience and safety of pedestrians at the busy Vikas Marg-Patparganj Road junction in East Delhi, the Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a plan to construct a skywalk near Nirman Vihar traffic signal. The department will soon start drone survey to finalize the project. According to PWD officials, thousands of people cross the road every day at this junction due to the presence of Nirman Vihar metro station, V3S mall, coaching centre, market and offices. With the construction of a skywalk, these people will get the option of safe and convenient transportation.
