During Patil's nomination, Deputy Chief Minister G. Apart from Parmeshwar, many ministers and senior leaders were present. Meanwhile, Congress MLC Salim Ahmed filed his nomination for the post of Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Council. Elections for this post are to be held on Friday.
Salim Ahmed submitted his nomination papers at the office of the Legislative Council Secretary in the presence of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. At the same time, BJP MLCs held a meeting under the leadership of Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalvadi Narayanaswamy and discussed the election for the post of Speaker of the Legislative Council and development works.
It is noteworthy that former Karnataka Legislative Council Speaker Basavaraj Horatti had said that he was forced to sign his resignation letter as he was not given a chance to resign on the day he had planned.
Horatti said that he had given all the information related to his resignation to the Governor but he had not received any message confirming whether his resignation had been accepted or not.
Horatti said, “I have told everything to the Governor in this regard. The Governor has not given me any information. He has not told that I have been relieved from the post or that my resignation has been accepted. As far as I know, if I have been appointed Pro Tem Speaker, it means that my resignation has been accepted.”
Horatty expressed disappointment over the way the state government handled the case and said he was hurt by these developments. He said, “I am saddened by this step of the state government. I have not done anything wrong. I am saddened. I have been in the House for 46 years and have served. I was forced to resign. I did not want a confrontational situation.”
Horatti said he had discussed the timing of his resignation with Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. There was an agreement between Shivkumar and him on this matter.
He said, “In my conversation with the Chief Minister, it was decided that the election of the Vice President would be held on August 14. I had said that I would get a chance to express my gratitude on that day. I had told him that after expressing my gratitude on that day, I would submit my resignation. I had also announced about this.”
