Perhaps this was the first time that the entire Vande Mataram was sung in a Congress program, but it created controversy. The reason for this was that BJP had alleged that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had questioned the singing of complete Vande Mataram at the Congress headquarters and tried to stop it. Congress denied these allegations. Jairam Ramesh said that Sonia Gandhi had not stopped singing Vande Mataram, but had asked for a chair for Mallikarjun Kharge, who was standing for a long time. When some photos and videos went viral, BJP claimed that Congress had stopped singing Vande Mataram, which was wrong. Clarifying on this, Congress said that the tradition of singing two verses of Vande Mataram was started on the advice of Rabindranath Tagore. However, Jairam Ramesh also said that the entire Vande Mataram was sung in the program and no one interfered.

BJP targets Congress over 'Vande Mataram'
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said in an exclusive interview with NDTV that it is very unfortunate that singing Vande Mataram was banned in the Congress office. There was a ban on singing Vande Mataram even during the Congress government. He also said that it is very unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were not allowed to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

Congress's clarification: Sonia Kharge was asking for chair
Congress has issued a clarification on BJP's allegation of banning the song Vande Mataram. Regarding Vande Mataram controversy, Jairam Ramesh said that there is no controversy. Sonia Gandhi was standing for a long time, hence Congress President was asking for a chair for Kharge. Citing the advice of Rabindranath Tagore, the Congress leader said that a meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held in Calcutta on October 28, 1937 regarding 'Vande Mataram'. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore had advised that only the opening lines of 'Vande Mataram' should be sung in meetings.
