Celebration of 80th anniversary of independence
Today the country is celebrating the 80th anniversary of independence, and the tricolor is flying proudly everywhere. On this occasion, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge did not attend the Independence Day celebrations held at the Red Fort. Both the leaders expressed their disagreement regarding the seating arrangement and protocol at the function.
According to sources, his displeasure was related to the protocol and seating arrangements at the function. Many things were not correct according to his position, due to which he withdrew from the program. This started political discussions.
A similar controversy had taken place on the last Independence Day, when the leader of the opposition was made to sit in the back row of the Lok Sabha. The opposition called it humiliating, while the Defense Ministry said it was done to accommodate Olympic athletes. As per rules, the leader of the opposition is given a front row position at such national events.
Prime Minister Modi's speech
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 13th consecutive time and wished the countrymen on Independence Day. He said that with the power of 1.4 billion Indians, the country is making progress in various fields, and the pace of development will be faster in future.
Discussion on development and security
In his speech, PM Modi talked about many issues like the development of the country, future of youth and security. He also mentioned “mental Naxalites”. PM Modi said that gun-wielding Naxalites are on the verge of being eliminated, but “mental Naxalites” are still looking for an opportunity. He stressed the need to identify and isolate such people.
Tension has increased between the two sides since the monsoon session of Parliament. The absence of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge from the Independence Day event shows that the political divide between the ruling party and the opposition has still not subsided.
