UGC NET 2026 Re examination: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken an important decision regarding the UGC-NET examination held in June 2026. The agency has announced to cancel and re-conduct the exams of the 3 main subjects of English, Commerce and Sociology after serious flaws and errors were found in the question papers. The relief is that candidates will not have to pay any additional examination fee for these three subjects. NTA has also released the official time table for these new exams.
Lots of mistakes in question papers
As per NTA’s official clarification, several factual, typographical, serious translation and grammatical errors were found in the question papers of these three subjects. In addition, linguistic ambiguity of questions, misspelling of names of great scholars as well as titles of books, repetition of questions and use of non-standard terms for established concepts were observed. This decision has been taken to maintain the transparency and accuracy of the examination.
The return test will be held in September
As per the new exam timetable:
English: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on September 9, 2026.
Trade: September 9, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Sociology: September 10, 2026 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Remaining 84 subjects results on time
NTA has clarified that for other 84 subjects for which the answer key challenge process has already started, their results will be declared as per the scheduled schedule. Re-examination of these 3 subjects will not affect JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD admission process for remaining subjects. Allotment of seats in all the three subjects will be done as per the rules of information bulletin.
