As August 15 approaches, a feeling of patriotism awakens in the heart of every Indian. It is a national holiday throughout the country. If you want to do something different on this occasion or are planning to travel somewhere, then you can think of visiting the places associated with Shaheed Bhagat Singh. There are many places in Punjab where the memories of Bhagat Singh are still alive. By visiting these places, you can not only feel the history, but also tell your children the story of this great revolutionary who sacrificed his life for the country. Let us know about the places where we can visit this 15th August.
Khatkar Kalan – ancestral village of Bhagat Singh
Bhagat Singh's sacrifice is one of the most important sacrifices in the history of the country – one which every Indian, whether child or old, will remember till his last breath. Although Bhagat Singh was born in Lyallpur (now in Pakistan), his ancestral village is Khatkar Kalan in Punjab; His ancestral house still exists there and is maintained by the Archeology Department. It is said that Bhagat Singh used to come to this village to spend his childhood holidays with his grandfather Arjun Singh. Even today, old things of the family are present in this ancestral house which gives a glimpse of that period. A large memorial and museum spread over 11 acres has been built in this village. In this, photographs, documents and life stories of Bhagat Singh have been shown very well. This is a great place to visit with the family and teach kids about history.
Hussainiwala – place of funeral
The Hussainiwala National Martyr Memorial, located in the Firozpur district of Punjab, was built in the memory of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Rajguru. It is said that these three revolutionaries were cremated at this place on the banks of river Sutlej; For this reason, patriots consider this place as a pilgrimage site. A special thing here is the flag lowering ceremony performed by the armies of India and Pakistan in the evening, which is similar to the Wagah-Attari border ceremony. If you are visiting on 15th August, do check out this evening ceremony; It is truly a hair-raising experience.
