Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, wrote a letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and appealed to personally meet the representatives of the protesting students in the state. He said that talking to the students to address their remaining concerns would strengthen the government’s commitment.
Rahul Gandhi, in a letter to Hemant Soren on Monday, said that the right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution and it is one of the main pillars of democracy. In the last few months, there have been reports of paper leaks and irregularities in the country’s education system. He believes that the education system is being made a medium for exploitation and oppression of students instead of the knowledge system that it used to be a decade ago. Rahul Gandhi said that students in Jharkhand are protesting against irregularities in the state’s recruitment examinations. The students’ protest has been peaceful and they want to express their demands in a democratic manner.
He said in the letter that he is aware that the state government has held talks with the students and has agreed to many of their demands. However, he said that the protest is still continuing and some students are on an indefinite hunger strike. Rahul Gandhi urged Chief Minister Soren to personally meet the representatives of the protesting students. This will further strengthen the government’s commitment to address the remaining concerns of the students.
He said in the letter that the youth of India are the future of the country. Expressing solidarity and support with the students in the current crisis situation, he requested the Chief Minister to listen to them and take appropriate steps towards solving their problems.
