IND vs SL: India's innings ended at 462, Padikkal's century, Rahul-Jurel hit fifties

Today (17 August) is the third day of the Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Galle. The Indian team, which started its innings with a score of 460/9, got reduced to 462. Team India could add only 2 runs to its yesterday's score. Sri Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando took only 4 balls to take India's last wicket. He got Prasidh Krishna (2) caught behind the wicket. Kuldeep Yadav returned unbeaten after scoring 13 runs.

India's innings dragged on till the third day due to rain

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Indian team had scored 288 runs at the loss of 2 wickets till stumps on the first day. 73 overs were played on the first day. Due to rain on the second day, only 43 overs could be played, due to which the Indian team's innings dragged on till the third day. It was understood that before the start of the third day's play, Team India would declare the innings on its yesterday's score and Sri Lanka would start batting but the team management sent Kuldeep and Prasidh to bat.

 

Sri Lanka did not take much time to break this last pair. Fernando took his second wicket of the match by dismissing Prasidh. His fast bowling partner Lahiru Kumara remained empty handed. Prabhat Jayasuriya was the most successful bowler of Sri Lanka. He took 4 wickets for 109 runs in 39 overs. Debutant Keshara Nuwantha also bowled the same number of overs but conceded 175 runs. Nuvantha had 3 wickets in his account.

Padikkal scored a century for India

Devdutt Padikkal played a big century innings for Team India. This left-handed batsman, who is making a comeback in the Test team, came at number-3 and scored 167 runs. This was the first century of his Test career. Padikkal also became the highest-ranked Indian batsman to play at number 3 in Sri Lanka. Opener KL Rahul scored 82 runs, while wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel scored 51 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was unfortunately run out after scoring 32 runs. Whereas Rishabh Pant (39) got a good start but he could not convert it into a big innings. Captain Shubman Gill could not walk. Only 16 runs came from his bat. Ravindra Jadeja could also score only 13 runs. Manav Suthar contributed 24 runs.
