And his father’s name was Kishanchand Sandhu Singh Nagpal and mother’s name was Noni Sandhu Singh. Let us tell you that Saroj Khan’s real name was Nirmala Nagpal. Worked under compulsion since the age of 3
The financial condition of Saroj Khan’s house was very bad, due to which she had to work in films as a child artist at the age of just 3 years. She worked as Baby Shyama in the film Nazrana. In the 1950s, she started dancing as a background dancer in films to earn her living.
Married at the age of 13 to a young man 30 years older
While learning the job, Saroj Khan met Sohan Lal, a dance master who was about 30 years older than her. Saroj Khan herself had revealed in an interview that when she used to go to school at the age of 13, Sohan Lal was 43 years old at that time. And they tied a black thread around his neck. At that time, innocent Saroj thought that this was marriage, but Sohan Lal had hidden a big truth from her that he was already married and had four children.
Truth revealed on birth of first son
Saroj Khan came to know the truth about Sohan Lal’s first wife and children in 1963 when her first son Raju Khan was born. In the year 1965 their second child was born. But that child died at the age of just 8 months. When Saroj Khan asked Sohan Lal to name her children, Sohan Lal flatly refused. Saroj Khan immediately parted ways with him. After a few years, Sohan Lal had a heart attack, so Saroj came close to him as a humanitarian. Then, after the birth of a daughter, Sohan Lal passed away.
Saroj Khan accepted Islam religion
Businessman Sardar Roshan Khan again entered the life of Saroj Khan, a single mother of two children. Roshan Khan not only truly loved Saroj but also gave his name to both her children. Saroj Khan married him in 1975. Due to their personal faith and heartfelt connection, they accepted Islam and Nirmala Nagpal officially became Saroj Khan. In 1974, Saroj Khan stepped out as an independent choreographer with the film ‘Geeta Mera Naam’. From Sridevi’s bubbly style to Madhuri Dixit’s Ek Do Teen and Dhak-Dhak. He choreographed more than 2000 songs. He received three National Awards and a record eight Filmfare Awards.
