Nalanda: Washing powder mixed in mid-day meal instead of salt, 35 children fall ill

Nalanda: The health of about 35 children deteriorated after eating the mid-day meal on Tuesday in Parasi Middle School, located in Noorsarai block of Nalanda district of Bihar. Children complained of severe burning sensation in throat and stomach pain. After this, there was chaos in the school and all the children were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Children told that rice and potato-soybean vegetable was served in lunch. While eating food, some children found the taste of vegetables strange. According to student Preeti Kumari, the vegetable tasted like surf instead of salt. After this, one by one the children started complaining of throat irritation and other problems.

Children sent from Dental College to Sadar Hospital

The school management first took the children to the Dental College located at Bhagan Bigha. After first aid, the doctors referred everyone to Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital. Children are being treated in the hospital. Civil Surgeon of Nalanda, Dr. Jaiprakash Singh said that the condition of the children is stable and the team of doctors is monitoring them. According to Principal Shailendra Kumar Singh, mid-day meal reaches the school through NGOs. He says that during the meal in the second row, a girl had asked for extra salt. The cook accidentally picked up surf instead of salt and put it in the food.

The minister reached the hospital and inquired about the condition of the children.

After the information about the children falling ill, the Education Department and the local administration have started investigation. Food samples are also being sent for testing. Bihar Government Minister Shravan Kumar reached Sadar Hospital and met the children and inquired about their condition from the doctors. The minister said that such negligence in children's food is a serious matter. Whoever is found responsible in the investigation, strict administrative and legal action will be taken against him. He said that the safety of children studying in government schools is the priority of the government.
