Lucknow. There is news of great relief for the teachers and non-teaching staff associated with the Basic Education Council of Uttar Pradesh. The government has approved refund of the premium amount deducted under the Group Insurance Scheme from the salaries of teachers and employees appointed after March 31, 2014. For this, financial and administrative approval of about Rs 134.60 crore has been given in the financial year 2026-27.
More than two lakh people will benefit
More than two lakh teachers and employees of the state are expected to benefit from this decision of the government. It has been told that the eligible amount deducted from the salary till September 1, 2022 will be returned in lump sum as arrears.
Who can get how much money?
About Rs 87 was deducted every month as group insurance premium. Depending on the eligibility and prescribed period, a total amount of around Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000 was deducted from the salaries of many employees. On an average a teacher or employee is expected to get back around Rs 6 to 9 thousand. However, the actual payment will be decided based on the service period of the concerned employee and the deductions recorded in the records.
Payment will be made after record verification
Before releasing the amount, the concerned Block Education Officer and Withdrawal-Disbursement Officer will match the amount of deduction with the records. The amount deducted at the prescribed rate and within the eligible period will be refunded. In case of wrong payment, the responsibility of the concerned officials will be fixed.
District Basic Education Officer will also regularly review the payment process. Eligible teachers and employees will be paid a lump sum as arrears through the respective drawing-disbursing officers. With this decision of the government, teachers and employees who have been waiting for a long time to get back the deducted insurance premium amount are expected to get financial relief.
