Vietnam advanced to the 2026 ASEAN Cup final after defeating Malaysia 2-0 at My Dinh Stadium, completing a 4-0 aggregate victory.
Holding a two-goal advantage from the first leg, coach Kim Sang-sik’s side controlled much of the match and created numerous chances, but Malaysia goalkeeper Azri Ghani repeatedly denied the hosts in a goalless first half.
Vietnam continued to press after the break, while Malaysia struggled to generate the attacking threat needed for a comeback.
Kim then introduced Nguyen Xuan Son in the 58th minute, and the substitution quickly paid off. Five minutes later, Xuan Son reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the penalty area and tapped in the opener after Truong Tien Anh’s shot was blocked.
The striker remained Vietnam’s most dangerous attacker and completed his brace in the 89th minute, using his strength to break down the left before finishing through Ghani’s legs. Malaysia had a few opportunities in the second half, but goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang made important saves to preserve the clean sheet. Vietnam will now face longtime regional rival Thailand in the final, with the first leg scheduled for Aug. 22.
