Difficult roads and extreme heat are taking lives
The route between Katoria and Inaravaran in Banka district is considered extremely difficult during the Kanwar Yatra. According to police and health officials, out of the total eight deceased, five Kanwariyas died directly due to sudden heart attack. Also, the health of most of the Kanwadis deteriorated while climbing the difficult climb of Jilabia mountain, after which they were taken to the hospital but their lives could not be saved. Apart from heart attacks, two Kanwadis have died in a road accident and one devotee has died due to electric shock.
Doctors told- Why are heart attacks coming?
According to senior doctors of Banka Sadar Hospital, starting such a difficult journey suddenly without any prior practice is taking a heavy toll on the heart. During this journey, the pressure on the heart increases as the devotees walk continuously for 25-30 kilometers without taking rest. Also, due to the humid heat in the month of Sawan, there is a huge deficiency of water and salt in the body, due to which the blood becomes thick and the possibility of blockages increases. Investigation revealed that many of these devotees were already suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease, but they did not consult doctors before the journey.
