Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda no longer world’s busiest domestic route

South Korea’s Jeju-Seoul Gimpo route has reclaimed its position as the world’s busiest domestic air route in August, after losing the title to Japan’s Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda in July, according to British aviation analytics firm OAG.

The Jeju-Seoul Gimpo route offers 1.18 million scheduled seats this month, a 4% year-on-year decline in capacity.

The flight between Seoul and Jeju takes around one hour and 15 minutes and is popular with travelers combining a visit to the South Korean capital with a trip to Jeju Island.

Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda, which held the top spot last month, came in second place with 1.12 million scheduled seats, recording 6% growth year-on-year.

This route is operated by four airlines and the flight time is 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Japan’s Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda route ranked third with 998,000 seats, up 3% in capacity.

Jeddah-Riyadh came fourth with 964,000 seats, marking 10% growth, while Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City rounded out the top five with 955,000 seats, up 7%.

The rankings are based on the number of scheduled airline seats available during the current calendar month, with each route measured by total capacity in both directions.

The figures are compiled from the OAG Schedules Analyser using data collected in the first week of each month and represent the latest full month of scheduled domestic and international flights.
