Patna. The Bihar government has approved the rehabilitation of two major canal systems to provide better irrigation facilities to farmers. Under this scheme, work will be done to repair, improve and improve water flow of canals. The entire project will cost Rs 66.18 crore. Thousands of farmers of Araria, Purnia and Katihar districts are expected to get direct benefits from this.
6 thousand hectare farms benefit from Janakinagar canal
After the improvement of Janakinagar branch canal and its associated canals, irrigation facilities in about 6 thousand hectares of agricultural area will be improved. Farmers of Narpatganj, Bhargama, Forbesganj and Raniganj blocks of Araria district will benefit from this. Due to better flow of water in the canals, farmers will get relief for irrigation of fields.
Farmers of Purnia and Katihar also benefit
The rehabilitation of the second canal system aims to increase the irrigation capacity in an area of about 7,065 hectares. Farmers of Jalalgarh, Kasba, Dagrua, Purnia East and Kennagar blocks of Purnia will get its benefit. Kodha, Mansahi, Hasanganj and Katihar blocks of Katihar will also be connected to the scheme.
Irrigation capacity will increase in about 13 thousand hectares
After the repair and improvement of the canals, the irrigation facility in about 13 thousand hectares of agricultural area is expected to be strengthened. This will ease the availability of water to farmers and families dependent on farming can benefit. Besides, agricultural production and rural economy are also expected to gain momentum.
