Clouds of crisis loom again on this tour of Team India, preparations for change in dates

India tour of Bangladesh: Once again clouds of crisis are looming over Team India’s tour of Bangladesh. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are reconsidering the proposed schedule and are trying to find a new window for the series. This has been confirmed by BCB President Tamim Iqbal himself during a press conference held in Dhaka. According to the schedule, the Indian team has to play a series of 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches in Bangladesh, the first ODI of which was to start from 3 September. However, there are less than two weeks left for the start of the tour, but the official schedule has not been released by BCCI yet.

Now again indications of change in dates

This tour was initially scheduled to be held in August 2025, which was later postponed and scheduled for September 2026. In January this year, BCB had announced that both the teams will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20 matches in Dhaka and Chittagong. But now Tamim Iqbal said while talking to journalists, ‘Both the boards are continuously talking about the India series. There may be slight changes in the dates.

BCB announced the schedule of its new tournament Game Development Trophy. The tournament is to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from August 28 to September 9, which is clashing with the dates of India’s tour. Talking about this conflict, Tamim Iqbal said that the domestic tournament can be shifted immediately if needed. He said, ‘Even though this tournament is to be held in Mirpur, it can be shifted to Bashundhara Ground in two minutes. As soon as the schedule of the India series is completely locked, we will make arrangements accordingly.

There is already tension between the boards

This situation has arisen at a time when relations between the two cricket boards have been somewhat tense in recent months. Earlier during the IPL, there were reports of a tussle between the two sides after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recalled Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. Now deciding the new schedule of the tour within a short time remains a big challenge for both the boards.
