US Sanctions Iran: Preparation for the toughest sanctions in history (US Sanctions Iran)
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that the ‘maximum pressure’ policy being applied on the Tehran government could reduce the need for direct military action. He said that America wants to achieve its strategic objectives by increasing economic pressure on Iran. Besant also appealed to China to cooperate with the US in efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and normalize energy supplies. He said that China is largely dependent on supplies from the Gulf region for its energy requirements. According to the US Treasury Department, the outline of new and extremely harsh sanctions against Iran in line with President Donald Trump’s economic strategy may be made public in the coming days. This is likely to further increase economic pressure on Iran and intensify geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
