Despite pollution, development work will continue in Delhi, big projects may get relief

The period of ban on construction and development work is likely to be reduced this year amid increasing air pollution during winter in Delhi. According to indications from the Delhi government, the ban on construction activities to control pollution may be limited from December 10 to January 20. However, the final decision will be taken keeping in mind the air quality and pollution situation at that time.

Big development projects will get more time

If this system is implemented, important projects like roads, flyovers, hospitals and drainage ongoing in Delhi will get more time for construction work as compared to previous years. This is expected to help in completing the projects within the stipulated time frame.

Work is going on in the capital on many projects related to Karawal Nagar flyover, construction and improvement of major roads, hospitals and drainage. Apart from this, elevated corridors and other road projects are also proposed or under construction to improve the traffic system.

Cost of projects increases due to long restrictions

In previous years, restrictions on construction activities have been imposed in a phased manner between November and January due to poor air quality. Prolonged work stoppages can impact project timelines and increase costs of machinery, labor and construction resources.

Delays, especially in projects related to hospitals and transportation, have a direct impact on the common people. In such a situation, allowing construction activities to continue for a longer period may be important for development work.

Balance between pollution control and development is necessary

The biggest challenge before the government will be to strike a balance between air pollution control and development work. In case of increase in pollution in December and January, keeping the ban period short will be effective only if other pollution control measures are also sufficiently effective. The final decision will depend on actual air quality and conditions.
