Indian golfer Rayhan Thomas and Indian-American Mahanth Chirravuri remained in contention for a strong finish at the AdventHealth Championship, sharing fifth place after 54 holes of the Korn Ferry Tour event in Kansas.
Both players are at 18-under 198, five shots behind Japan's Yuta Sugiura, who surged to the top of the leaderboard with a course-record-equaling eight-under 64. With one round remaining, Thomas and Chirravuri have an opportunity to challenge for their best finishes on the developmental circuit.
Thomas followed his opening two rounds with a one-under 69, featuring five birdies and two bogeys. The Dubai-born Indian has been among the most consistent players in the field and enters the final round five shots off the lead.
Chirravuri produced one of the day's standout performances. Starting from the 10th tee, he carded nine birdies en route to an eight-under 64. A bogey on his final hole prevented an even lower score, but the round matched his career-best.
The effort has put Chirravuri in position to chase his first Korn Ferry Tour top-10 finish in his 10th start. His previous best result was a tie for 19th at the Pinnacle Bank Championship.
Sugiura leads at 22-under 194 after a bogey-free 64. The 22-year-old has secured the first 54-hole lead of his Korn Ferry Tour career as he targets his maiden title. John Marshall Butler is second at 21-under, while Zack Fischer is third at 19-under. Petr Hruby joins Thomas and Chirravuri at 18-under.
The final round will also have implications for players competing for positions in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. The top 156 players on the Points List after the AdventHealth Championship will qualify for the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation, the first of four Finals events.
